This goes against the recommendations for athletes under 18 in which it is established that these athletes should not take creatine or any other substances to improve performance (American Academy of Pediatrics, 2005).
While the risks associated with supplementation with vitamins and minerals are not as severe as the risks associated with the use of ergogenic aids such as steroids, amphetamines and growth hormone Elite Test 360 young athletes can begin using vitamins and minerals and then progress to more dangerous substances (Sobal and Marquart, 1994b). Many dietary supplements have the reputation of being safe and not cause adverse effects because they consist mainly of natural compounds and are marketed as safe and legal substances to improve performance unlike banned substances such as anabolic steroids. Unfortunately, despite its apparent "natural" composition, not all supplements are evaluated by the Office of Food and Drugs (Food and Drug Administration, FDA) and therefore the claims about its safety and reliability are not implausible ( Metzl et al., 2001).
